Types of Dental Coverage
Make sure you understand what type dental coverage you have!
Dental Insurance Coverage - One of the most familiar types of dental coverage you may
have heard of is from the Dental Health Maintenance Organization or DHMO.
Dental Savings Plans/Non-Insurance Dental Plans/Discount dental plans/Reduced-Fee-For-Service
Plans - Another type of dental coverage or dental plan has recently become popular and can provide quality dental care at a
discounted rate.
These non-insurance dental plans vary in types but for the most part, unlike dental
insurance, have no annual limits. A monthly or yearly fee is paid for the membership
and in exchange discounts on dental services are provided.
Depending on ones individual situation these savings can be substantial when multiple
family members are involved.
For example, for one individual if their dental costs are
$1,000 for the year, a savings of $250 - $500 can possibly be received. If there is a
family of four, and the projected dental costs are now $4,000 for the year, the savings
have now increased by four! For those who are on a tight budget or have a large
family, savings of this type can truly be appreciated.
It is important that if you anticipate major dental procedures in the near future that you consider
obtaining some form of coverage to help reduce the impact of these costly procedures.
Always remember regardless of your situation, alternatives can be found! Speak with your dentist;
some local family dentists may be willing to assist with breaking up payments to accommodate their
patients.
Do not delay in obtaining the dental care that you or your family needs if at all possible. It will only lead to even more
costly procedures in the long run if neglected; your teeth will thank you for it in the end!
