Tongue Scraper

One item that has become increasingly popular and has been found helpful with reducing bad breath is a tongue scraper.  Tongue scrapers assist with removing any additional food particles that can contribute to the build up of plaque!

A tongue scraper (also called a tongue cleaner or tongue brush) is an oral hygiene device designed to clean the bacterial build-up, food debris, fungi, and dead cells from the surface of the tongue. The bacteria and fungi that grow on the tongue are related to many common oral care and general health problems.

There are so many different types of tongue cleaners. They are made from plastic, metal or other materials and vary widely by their shape, size. Some are shaped with the anatomy of the tongue in mind and designed to lift and trap the plaque coating and effectively clean the surface of the tongue by running it across the top surface of the tongue.

With all the variety of products available, one can be easily overwhelmed. Just remember the basics, brush teeth and floss. After that, it is all up to personal taste, and of course any specific advice provided to you by your dentist or hygienist. Remember, the most important is regular visits to the dentist every 6 months are a must!
